Just Us

Over the past two years we've slowly technologically (more like - "televisionally") regressed. It started as a money saving endeavor, but has snowballed into a "minimalize"-ing obsession. We called up our cable provider and stopped our basic cable subscription; opting, instead, to rely on the internet for our basic television needs. Realizing that television was more of a distraction than a necessity, I unplugged my once-beloved TiVo and stored her away with the also-relegated big-screen HDTV. Sure, I miss a good sitcom every now and then (although, if the urge really hits me, all I have to do is fire up Netflix and stream an episode of "Cheers"), but I've found that the television has been more of a distraction than a fulfillment, and as much as I abhor it, law school has given me a new appreciation for the written word.

Leigh and I have implemented a New Year's Resolution 3 months early. (Although this may seem like a non-sequitur, it really IS related; I promise.) We have formerly been extremely private people. Never enjoying the spotlight; never wanting to deal with the repercussions of being the center of attention; Babe (aka Leigh Leigh) and I have always opted on providing little more than short, information-less answers to personal questions. We may have divulged a detail or two more when pressed for more on certain subjects by close friends, but over all, the two of us have more often than always kept our personal lives (and at other times, our public lives) to ourselves and to each other. This not only closes us off from many people, but also just isn't as fun as being open and forthcoming. Realizing that relationships are based not only on shared experiences but also on vulnerability and trust, our resolution is to be open and honest with friends, family, and strangers alike.

Therefore, because we've eliminated the boob tube from our household and have resolved to open our lives to those with whom we interact, we present to you a blog about us: Just Us.

We plan for this to be an intimately personal look at our relationship and journey as a family. Since we are human beings living in the 21st century, we will probably not be shedding any new light on relationships or family life, but we do aim to present those aspects of our lives that will bring us closer to you: strangers, readers, friends, and family.
